Melina Sarra-May
BACP Accredited.
A warm welcome to Melina Therapy. I am Melina Sarra-May and I have 30 years experience as a clinical therapist. Providing therapeutic support for children, young people, adults, family dynamics and relationships. I work with clients from here in the UK and all over the world. Enabling clients to explore their emotional difficulties, whilst feeling safe and supported. I am passionate about my practice and value inclusiveness and the uniqueness of each individual.
I have considerable experience in the area of addictions, drug and alcohol and sexual violence. To reassure you of my extensive knowledge and understanding of the associated issues and impact of addictions and trauma.
I am sensitive to how our past links to childhood and growing up can influence and impact on our identity and self esteem. Also, on how past pain and trauma can sit within our mind and body consciousness and affect our daily functioning, health and wellbeing. Whether from attachment, rejection or abandonment experiences.
I am a regular practitioner of mindfulness and I pay particular attention to my own wellness and self-care, which helps and supports the ethos of my practice. Blending both Eastern and Western philosophies into everyday living. Embracing warmth, kindness and compassion into my life and my practice. I am a true believer that we need to love ourselves before we can love others and resolve our problems.
About Therapy
I would describe therapy as a healing experience and the journey of making or becoming sound or healthy again. Generally, if you are feeling overwhelmed with everything. Overthinking and feeling as though you are unable to 'switch off' from your thoughts. Feeling low and more tearful than usual. Getting angry more easily or struggling to regulate your emotions, these are signs that you may need additional support and would benefit from therapy.
In therapy we often look at our past. The aim is not to blame, but to understand, change our meaning, our narrative and our sense of ourselves and our story.
Therapy, also called psychotherapy or counselling, is the process of meeting with a therapist to resolve these problematic thoughts feelings and behaviours. Sometimes it is more the things that we are not saying rather than the things that we are that a therapist can draw out.
A therapist is someone who is trained and impartial to you and your situation. So you won't feel judged or fear any consequences to being open and honest.
There are various different modalities of therapy. Here at Melina Therapy, I work from an integrative approach. Drawing from a unique blend of theories and interventions to create bespoke psychological care. With Person Centred Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Neuro Linguistic Programming and Mindfulness engrained within my practice. So you can find the right fit of therapy for you.
About Wellness Coaching
I would describe Wellness Coaching as an holistic approach towards your overall mind, body and healthy wellbeing. Generally, If you have slipped into bad habits. Low on energy and motivation and feeling stressed and burnt out. Lacking in direction and consistency in positive routines, these are signs that you may need additional support and would benefit from wellness sessions.
A wellness coach can help to keep you motivated while giving methods and tools to reach your emotional and physical goals. Learning how to embrace self-care, compassion and kindness towards yourself. As I am a firm believer that, if you love yourself you can achieve anything.
By applying a unique blend of Eastern Philosophy with Coaching techniques to build confidence and self-esteem. Re-frame a negative mindset into a positive one and bring purpose and new direction into your life.
By beginning to embrace little fresh starts and small adjustments, we can unlock your energy and potential to find calmness and balance within your daily routines, whilst working towards longer term goals.
