A warm welcome to Melina Therapy and clinical supervision. If you are looking for a clinical supervisor, I am Melina Sarra-May and I am a BACP accredited integrative counsellor and wellness coach. I provide bespoke supervision for therapists and practitioners and anyone who engages empathically with clients.
I have thirty years' experience working with many issues, including anxiety, depression, loss and grief - to more sensitive, childhood issues, self-harm, suicide, trauma and PTSD.
I am a trauma specialist drawn from lived experience and clinical experience, working with clients suffering from trauma and PTSD - I specialise in sexual abuse, sexual violence and rape. My practice is trauma informed, as it is important that you feel safe with me and safe within the supervisory alliance.
I have expertise in addictions having spent significant years working in the drug and alcohol field and also expertise in relationship and intermate partners counselling.
My practice is inclusive and culturally sensitive - I am naturally drawn to those who have been marginalised or targeted in some way, whether culturally or within their family/community. Often clients come to me who have been displaced or missing a sense of belonging, struggling with identity or something that is seen as shameful or taboo.
I am English Italian living in the UK and I work remotely, online with therapists here, internationally and across the globe.
Clinical supervision is for counsellors, psychotherapists and other mental health and wellness professionals to support their work and help reduce the impact on their own mental health. Often described as secondary or vicarious trauma, anyone who engages empathically with clients and is witness to material relating to their trauma, can potentially be affected. In line with the BACP Ethical Framework - supervision is there to support and enhance good practice and to protect clients from risk and poor practice.
I would describe my supervision as a safe space where you can explore cases and be reflective in your practice, raise concerns and celebrate the joy of client work. In addition, we can hold space for your own self-care and wellness and any work-related stress or personal issues that may be affecting you or your practice.
I believe that warmth, openness and authenticity are key to building trust and empathy within the supervisory relationship. Regarding supervision as a collaborative space for support, guidance and learning, so that you can continue to grow and feel valued as a practitioner. While the consistency of supervision is essential to affirming the supervisory bond and depth of the work.
My supervision approach is integrative, drawn from a unique blend of evidence- based therapies, grounded in neuroscience, with coaching and trauma recovery interventions - creating effective and compassionate supervision support for you.

"I would recommend Melina if you want an approach that is genuine, warm, caring, reflective and informed. I am able to be fully transparent about my emotions and thought processes about my clients. I have felt safe to be able to explain fully how the therapy I have undertaken has impacted on my own well-being. I have learned to be extremely confident in my abilities and my ethical approach."
"I find Melina extremely warm and encouraging of my development. Able to give enough of herself without taking away from her supervisee's. She is naturally able to guide me towards reflection rather than merely advising me to do it."
